Preparing Our Hearts for Annual Session: 30 Days of Prayer and Devotion - Day 29

Day 29 – Sent Together

Rev. Dr. Miriam Méndez

Executive Minister and Senior Regional Pastor, ABCNJ

Scripture: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations... and remember, I am with you always." — Matthew 28:19–20

Reflection

The Christian life is never meant to end at the church doors. We gather for worship so that we may be strengthened, encouraged, and then sent into the world as ambassadors of Christ. Jesus' final words to His disciples were not simply a command to go, but a promise that He would remain with them. Mission and presence belong together.

The Annual Session itself reflects this rhythm. We come together to worship, pray, learn, and celebrate God's faithfulness. Yet the purpose of gathering is ultimately to prepare us to return to our congregations and communities with renewed vision and renewed hope. We leave not as isolated individuals, but as partners in God's mission.

ABCNJ churches have been sent into neighborhoods, schools, hospitals, workplaces, and communities carrying the love of Christ. That calling continues today. We are sent together to be signs of God's kingdom, proclaiming the gospel in both word and deed. As we prepare to gather, let us also prepare to go, trusting that Christ's presence goes before us.

Prayer

Sending God, renew our hearts for Your mission. Fill us with courage, compassion, and joy as we go into our communities to share the hope of Christ. Help us to remember that wherever we go, You are with us. Amen.

Practice

Pray for your neighborhood or community today. Ask God to show you one practical way your church can be a visible sign of Christ's love.
