The American Baptist Churches of New Jersey is a diverse network of churches seeking to be the hands and feet of Christ in New Jersey through camping, evangelistic ministries, public mission, social action, new church planting, and cross-cultural mission.

The American Baptist Churches of New Jersey is a Christ-centered and mission-focused region committed to its rich diversity that is found in the over 280 churches and approximately 70,000 members.
The American Baptist Churches of New Jersey, both as a state organization and through its member churches, exists to spread the Gospel in New Jersey and beyond.
We assist congregations during pastoral transitions and the search for new ministers.
We provide coherence and connection of regional churches to the broader American Baptist mission, witness, and identity, as well as the cooperative work in the world.
We provide educational events and resources for clergy and lay leaders around congregational development.

During a recent meeting held by the Council of the American Baptist Churches of New Jersey, a unanimous vote of affirmation was passed to relocate the ABCNJ Regional Office to Westfield, New Jersey.

On Saturday, June 3, 25 sisters and brothers from the Asian community of the American Baptist Churches of New Jersey gathered at Baptist Camp Lebanon in Lebanon, NJ. What a joyful and inspirational time of fellowship and relationship-building we had together.
The ABCNJ staff and the Committee on Professional Ministries and Church Relations hosted its first Introduction to ABCNJ Life on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the ABCNJ offices. We were delighted to host 12 ordination candidates from around the region.

ABCNJ’s Communities in Action initiative seeks to encourage and support those that answer Jesus’ call to go and do. Communities in Actions grants of up to $2,000 will be awarded for new ministry proposals. Communities in Action grant applications will be accepted from July 18 through August 31, 2022. We have had more mass shootings in this year than we have had days in the year. Since the beginning of 2022, there has not been a single week without a mass shooting. The Congressional Research Service defines mass shootings as a multiple homicide incident in which four or more victims are murdered with firearms, within one event, and in one or more locations in close proximity. Many of these do not make the news…
Join us as our ABCNJ Executive Minister, Rev. Miriam Méndez, lifts prayers for the victims, families, and communities impacted by this past weekend’s racially-motivated violent extremist act at the Tops Grocery store in Buffalo, NY. We are also praying for our colleagues in the Niagara Area Baptist Association as they continue the work of healing in their communities.

The American Baptist Churches of New Jersey is launching a new initiative: “Communities in Action.” This is a collaboration between ABCNJ’s current New Church Development and Public Mission Committees. This partnership aspires to facilitate Christian leaders in navigating the present post-Christian pluralistic society, where injustice and inequity continue to pervade while supporting one another in discovering ways to respond with love and courage. These events, activities, and resources seek to inspire, empower, and support congregations and faith groups in the work towards justice and human rights to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ and be peacemakers in our world.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, communities from diverse groups have faced various social, emotional, and economic challenges. People of Asian descent, especially elderly immigrants, are afraid to use public transit for fear of attacks and have isolated themselves from socializing with friends and church members.
After two years of serving as a full-time Associate Regional Pastor for The American Baptist Churches of New Jersey, the Rev. Dr. Carol L. Patterson has accepted a call to serve as the Associate Pastor of Faith Formation and Discipleship at her home church, First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, where Dr. Dante Quick serves as Senior Pastor.
