For Such a Time As This

On October 13th the Greater Delaware Valley Association of ABCNJ is hosting a evening of reflection, Discussion, and prayer. Entitled For Such A Time As This, the evening will focus on the current political climate surrounding the presidential election, and how Christians can be faithful witnesses to Christ and his Kingdom during these tumultuous times. Rev. Brent Miller, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Collingswood, describes what led to this call to be put out,

It is hard to miss the divisive rhetoric coming out of the world of politics at the moment, and sadly, many who identify as Christians have taken part. Such rhetoric misrepresents Jesus, and is both confusing and detrimental to the Church’s witness. We feel strongly that we cannot sit by and do nothing while the world gets the wrong idea about Jesus and his Kingdom.

The evening will include times of joyful expression through song, as well as moments of reflection and intercession through prayer. A paper, entitled For Such A Time as This, will also be presented and discussed by a panel of guests (click the thumbnail below to download a copy of this document).

Philippians – Growing Spiritual Fruit

Philippians – Growing Spiritual Fruit [lead]How is the Bible able to help us with spiritual formation? Pondering a VBS? Come to our open house – November 21

Help the Bible become more than stories

The Bible is central to the Christian faith. It's where we read the story of God interacting with the world, promising redemption, and conquering sin and death in the person of Jesus Christ. But the the people and attitudes we find in the Bible often seem alien to us, and when we tell the stories to others they may seem like nothing more than another set of "fairy tales." People have to learn to engage the Bible deeply if they want to embrace it's transformative truth, but how do we accomplish this?

For decades a favorite introduction has been through Vacation Bible School. These programs have the potential to bring the Bible to life for children through song, skit, craft, and celebration. When churches invest their time into one both adults and children can learn that people in "Biblical times" really were a lot like us. We also find reassurance in knowing the God who poured compassion out in times past is the same God who saves us in Jesus Christ today.

Running a successful VBS can be a daunting task, however, so ABCNJ would like to help get the ball rolling.

Registration is free, but we do need to know how many people are coming, so tap or click on the button below to register through Eventbrite today!

New Visions – Life Planning and Retirement Preparation

What do you think your retirement will look like? Do you imagine yourself lost in "ministry itches" you've long put off? Are you looking forward reading books in a hammock while sipping tea. Do you envision retirement as a time of adventure, travel, and new horizons? These can be wonderful goals, but if you don't plan for retirment in advance you retirement may turn out to be a different sort of adventure all together full of unneccessary stress and anxiety.

"New visions" is designed for professional church leaders who are 50 and up and will be held at the region office on October 26 & 27. Join us for what we promise will be a fun and exciting adventure with Dr. Doug Wheeler of the Center for Career Development and Ministry and retired Executive Minister of ABC Connecticut, Dr. Lowell Fewster.

The workshop will be an opportunity for you and your spouse to engage in discussions to start thinking and working towards the retirement you desire rather than one that will just happen to you. Included in this event will be an opportunity to work one on one with a representative of MMBB on your account.

[button color="blue" link="" size="default" target="_self" block="false"]Register Today[/button]

The workshop will run from 10AM to 4PM both days.

Camp Lebanon will have over 1,000 photos to share with attendees, thanks to a lot of hard work of everyone who has worked so hard to scan old photographs and slides. We'd love for our Lebanon family to add to our collection, why not bring your own to share?

The cost of the celebration is $65.00 a person, and deadline for reservations is October 1, 2015. Contact Smitty by using the form below or calling 908-236-2638. Engaging the Soul of Your Digitally Connected Kid

The Greater Delaware Valley Association and Oaklyn Baptist Church invite you to join Jonathan Cronkhite from Homes Devoted for a day-long adventure meant to re-shape the role the home plays in faith development and growth. For many years what goes on at church has been thought to be what impacts happenings at home, but this is actually a new way of thinking. A more classic understanding of discipleship is actually the reverse. It used to be understood what goes on at home is what impacts the church. This seminar, meant for parents of any age children, will encourage participants to return to this more rich and classic understanding of discipleship.

Don't miss this great opportunity!

The Ultimate Goal of Parenting

Our greatest goal as parents is to help our children love a great God. So, why are the majority of children growing up in the church growing out of faith? We look at scripture and statistics, combined with 20 years of personal ministry experience, to delve into breaking this trend. You will leave inspired and equipped with simple ideas you can apply immediately to make God known in the midst of daily family life, living out Deuteronomy 6.

Fairy Tale or Father?

Children hear about the great miracles God did in the past: parting the Red Sea, Daniel in the lions’ den, Jonah swallowed by a whale, etc.. Do they see what God is doing now? Is God a fairy tale? Make believe? Something we grow up and grow out of? Learn how to encourage your child to pray and to see God answer prayer. Holding a child’s hand, in faith, as he/she approaches our heavenly Father, initiates a relationship of trust, obedience, and blessing.

Parenting Techies

If a stranger knocked on your front door hoping to find your child alone, you would notify the police and take extra precautions immediately. Yet only 19% of our children’s electronic devices are protected from such a threat. Over 50% of exposure to “bad stuff” is occurring through cell phones. The majority of our children stumble upon it accidentally AND takes place in our own homes simply because we left the front door unlocked!!!. Technology is everywhere, but many parents are not aware of the possible dangers or of how to safeguard them.

Digging Deeper

“Faith comes from hearing; hearing the word of God.” (Romans 10.17) How will our children grow in faith? By teaching them the Word. How can we have effective family devotions with our young children and teenagers? How can parents teach the Bible, when they may be new to faith themselves? This session offers practical advice that will help parents persevere through the trials of scheduling and executing one of the most important disciplines: reading the Bible together.
