ABCNJ Mourns the Loss of Rev. Ronald C. Quay

Announcement from First Baptist Church of Morristown: It is with regret that we announce the death of one of our former Pastors, Reverend Ronald C. Quay. He passed away on December 27, 2012 in Trinity Rock Island, Illinois. Ron was born December 9, 1944 in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from Judson College in Elgin, Illinois in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He graduated in 1970 from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey with a Masters of Divinity Degree. He was the Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Morristown NJ for ten years from 1992 through 2002. Ron pastored the First Baptist Church during its darkest days. When our Church was destroyed by the fire, Ron gave everyone strength and encouragement to go on and began the rebuilding of our beloved Church building. Ron worked on interfaith issues and was committed to social justice action. He is survived by his wife, Marcy, and his two sons, Daniel and David, and several grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by our congregation.


Rev. James Harrison Eldridge Goes to be with the Lord


Reverend James Harrison Eldridge left this world for his heavenly reward on December 5, 2012. He was 92 years old. He was born on December 14, 1919 to the late James and Edith Eldridge and graduated from Collingswood High School as well as the Eastern Baptist Seminary. After he was ordained in 1944, Reverend Eldridge started his ministry at the First Baptist Church of Holloway Terrace. He retired from his full time ministry in 1984 at Cross Road Baptist Church in Bangor, PA. He continued his interim ministry in four additional locations in DE, NJ, PA and OH, ending his ministry where he began at the First Baptist Church of Holloway Terrace.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris Slawter Eldridge, son David of California, daughter Janyce Barnes (Roger) of Indiana, sister Naomi Reynolds (Dorsey) of Pennsylvania, and brother Paul (Elizabeth) of Delaware. He is also survived by his grandchildren Erin and Sean Barnes of Indiana and Jessica Eldrige of California, nieces Ruth Zoda (Tom) and Kristie Howie (Jim), nephews Jeffrey Eldridge (Keith) and Daryl Reynolds (Mariette), great-nieces Natalie Zoda and Megan Merritt and great-nephew James Merritt.

A celebration of Reverend Eldridge's life will be held 10:00 am, Saturday, December 15, 2012 with service to begin at 11:00 am at the Bethel Baptist Church 1217 Wilson Road, Wilmington, DE.

ABCNJ Mourns the Loss of Catalena Foster

Rev. Eva Foster (Union Baptist, Montclair) has shared with the Region Office that her mother, Catalena Foster, "passed from labor to reward" on Monday evening, November 5. "On Friday, November 2, she celebrated her 93rd birthday. Mom was blessed with longevity and I'm sure that she is resting in the arms of our Savior, she writes. The services will be held at: Miles Funeral Home, 136 Decatur Street, Brooklyn, NY 11216, on Friday, November 9 at 10:00am.

We know that the ABCNJ family will lift Eva and the rest of her family up in prayer during this time of sadness and mourning.

ABCNJ Mourns the Loss of Doris Letitia Crisson

Doris Letitia Crisson, 90, a 24 year resident of Navesink Harbor in Red Bank, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012. Born May 15, 1921, she graduated from NJ State Teacher's College in 1943 and taught in the Maplewood School District. Doris was a very active resident of Navesink Harbor and chaired many committees through the years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Red Bank and had served as a representative to The American Baptist Churches of NJ. She regularly supported hundreds of charities. Doris was a dear friend to many and will be greatly missed. A memorial service in her honor will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10 at The Atrium at Navesink Harbor, 40 Riverside Ave., Red Bank. By request, inurnment will be private. John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank, has been entrusted with the arrangements. Published in Asbury Park Press on March 4, 2012
