OF FAITH

 Rev. Brent Miller

ABCNJ’s Public Mission Committee exists to help our churches network with resources in their communities and serve as a clearing house for our public expression of faith. During this workshop three areas of justice will be highlighted: adoption, domestic violence and human trafficking.  Participants will also have an opportunity to engage in dialogue on how to respond in tangible, costly, courageous and compassionate ways to be people of faith who seek justice for the weak, vulnerable and marginalized.

About the Presenter

Brent Miller is lead Pastor at First Baptist Church of Collingswood and the author of Grace at the Threshold, Royal Mistakes, and the forthcoming Deleting Jesus.  He and his wife Megen are the proud parents of two adopted children, Kaeleigh and Caleb.  Brent is the current chair of the ABCNJ Public Mission Committee.

Moving from Crisis to Competent Community

 Rev. Joe Gratzel

Rev. Joe Gratzel

Emerging from their work in the Manasquan, NJ area, Rev. Joe Gratzel and his colleague, Denise Wegeman, MSW, have developed an easily adaptable model that allows churches to take the lead in helping their communities move from crisis to competency.  In the wake of a teen suicide contagion, Superstorm Sandy, and an opioid epidemic, Churches in the Manasquan area worked closely with government, schools, and NGO's to develop a fast, thorough and effective response to crisis. Churches / Congregations are uniquely resourceful and nimble and can be key agents in creating "competent communities"

About the Presenter

Rev. Joe Gratzel is the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Manasquan and a Community Consultant for the Mental Health Association of Monmouth County.  He is married to ABCNJ’s Disaster Response Coordinator, Denise Gratzel.  Joe and Denise live in Manasquan and have 7 children and the world’s handsomest grandson.
