This past week I posted two articles by ABCNJ church pastors (Dr. Dee Dee Turlington and Rev. Gordon Braun) concerning Biblical illiteracy and the church. This has been an overriding concern for me as Regional Pastor for the past 6 years, and I am glad to see our pastors address this issue.

Through National Ministries' Clark Grant church renewal project, the Health and Faithfulness survey developed in New Jersey is now being used in several other regions to help churches appreciate their strengths and weaknesses and to develop a strategic plan for growth and renewal.

So far, 17 churches have completed the initial survey and a fascinating pattern is emerging. Out of 7 Health indicators, Discipleship has the lowest score. Not just in one region, but in each one! The same was true here in our state when we polled across the region back in 2004.

In response, one of the ways that the region has sought to serve our churches is by creating the Jesus Christ from Cover to Cover Bible study course. In just 35 lessons, the entire scriptures can be encountered through the prism of the Messianic theme - how the Bible gradually unveils the need for a Messiah, how Jesus addressed that need, and how the first century church responded to his ministry and message.

Last week, Rev. Felix Tingson, ABCNJ President and the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Peddie Memorial Church in Newark, invited me both to preach and to share a Jesus Christ from Cover to Cover overview lesson following worship. He expected 15 people or so to attend, but over 40 people participated!  And in 45 minutes, we covered the entire Bible 3 times!

Want to know how? Invite me to share with your church!
