The covenant relationship between the Union of Baptist Churches in Rwanda (UEBR) and American Baptist Churches of New Jersey (ABCNJ) was formally recognized at the September, 2000 ABCNJ Annual Session.

The covenant affirms that “churches of both regions have gifts which can bless the other as we joyfully await the blessing which God will send each church through the other. We affirm the importance of this dimension of our covenant with the belief and hope that international friendships will develop and be maintained. We also affirm that the witness of our relationship will be a testament to our mutual love for and obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ.”
