Become a Sister Church to a Baptist Union of Rwanda Congregation

At the 2000 ABCNJ Annual Session, a covenant relationship with the Baptist Union of Rwanda (UEBR) was established!

As part of the covenant ABCNJ and UEBR will endeavor to create church to church contacts between congregations. This is an affirmation of our belief that churches of both regions have gifts which can bless the other as we joyfully await the blessing which God will send each church through the other. We affirm the importance of this dimension of our covenant with the belief and hope that international friendships will develop and be maintained. We also affirm that the witness of our relationship will be a testament to our mutual love for and obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ.

Terms of the Covenant:

Prayerful remembrance of one another that God might grant each an abundant harvest as we proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ;

Faithful engagement with one another through promotion of sister church relationships under the auspices of ABCNJ and UEBR;

An ongoing mission exchange between officers, pastors, laity and staff that we might mutually encourage and learn from one another;

Generous support for such projects as may be recommended from time to time to one another;

A prophetic witness through a ministry of reconciliation concerning issues of racism and tribalism which afflict our churches and our nations; and

Regular communication with one another to share the joys and challenges facing each of us in our mutual Christian witness.

We are asking the sister churches to make a financial commitment of at least $700.00 annually through 2005. “Non-sister” churches are invited to contribute any amount to the grinding mill project.

As you contribute to this project please consider this gift over and above your commitment to the United Mission Offering.

It is a Christian privilege and a spiritual blessing to collaborate in any way with our devout and courageous sisters and brothers in Rwanda. Their dedication to the Lord and to reaching and serving "the least of these my brothers" challenges us "first world Christians" to the depths of our souls...and pocketbooks. May our 20th century malady of spiritual blindness be healed in the 21st century with holy sensitivity and insight to the needs of our Christian kinfolk in Rwanda.
