Information on the New Clark Grant 2008-2009 

 

The Rev. Dr. Lee Spitzer,Executive Minister, of the American Baptist Churches of New Jersey has assigned Rev. and Mrs. Ned and Karen Flexer to be coordinators of this ministry.  Church interested in becoming involved in the New Clark Grant 2008-2009 Missional Church Learning Experience should read this initial communication.  This project was created by Frank E. Clark and National Ministries in response to the awareness that churches throughout the United States are looking for ways to revitalize their ministry.

 


Missional church is “a church whose primary focus is serving outward rather than serving inward”.

As National Ministries defines it, a Missional church is “a church whose primary focus is serving outward rather than serving inward”. When a church is on mission with God, its people are demonstrating God’s love as Christ did through word and deed, empowered by God’s Spirit.

 

When churches forget the reason for their existence they often become self-serving entities.  Refocusing outward on a mission helps Christians regain their purpose, bringing new life and vitality to the church.

 

Seven regions across the U.S. will be participating, each by forming a learning community of 6-10 small churches (fewer than 150 members) in small communities (fewer than 50,000 populations).  These learning communities will have an opportunity to gain more understanding of Missional church through practical learning experience.

Our first session is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2008, 10 AM to 3PM
oordinators for American Baptist Churches of New Jersey.  We will be working closely with both National Ministries and our region’s learning community.  As you will see on the materials, there will be 4 regional learning community sessions over an 18-month period.  Our first session is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2008, 10 AM to 3PM.
