altIn November, 2008, 3 ABCNJ pastors (Michael Feicht, Michael Klemick and Peter Ely) traveled to Kampala, Uganda with ABCNJ's Executive Minister/Senior Regional Pastor, Lee B. Spitzer, to participate in the All East Africa Baptist World Alliance regional meeting.

On our last day, we met with a group of Rwandan Baptist refugees.  In response to our love and encouragement, they formed into a community (Baptist Friendship Kampala), and asked us to assist them in sending their children to school.  In Uganda, private school is the only viable option.

This summer, ABCNJ (through International Ministries) sent its first offering of $3,000 to Baptist Friendship.   The Baptist Union of Uganda (Rev. Michael Okwakol, President) is administering the grant for us.  We have received word that the group has distributed the funds - to 30 elementary school children.  The group's families have about 100 children of various ages.

We hope to provide a second scholarship gift by month's end.

This ministry is entirely funded by the free will offerings of ABCNJ churches.  For more information about how your church can sponsor a child, please contact Mrs. Judy Hart, ABCNJ Coordinator for Rwanda Ministries, or Dr. Spitzer, through the region office.
