Funeral Service for Rev. Lesly George Print E-mail
Written by Rev. Vernl E. Mattson
Sunday, 13 December 2009 01:40
Today persons from all over New Jersey came together to remember Rev. Lesly Georges whose funeral service was held at Eglise Baptiste De La Houvelle Jerusalem in Irvington, New Jersey, pastor Rev. Joseph Etienne.  Rev. Georges was killed in an automobile accident on the Friday following Thanksgiving.  The funeral service was a celebration and home going for a servant and pastor of God.  The church was filled to standing room only with members and friends of the family and many fellow pastors who gave their support and comfort.  Rev. Lesly Georges had started the First Haitian Baptist Church of Williamstown, NJ and had made a wonderful and loving presence in this growing congregation.  The new congregation remains as a solid witness to the Lord Jesus Christ and the salvation which we have through Him.  The American Baptist Churches of New Jersey and the Alliance Des Eglises Baptistes Haitiennes joined together for the funeral with great music, many who remembered the life of Rev. Georges, and a testimony to the Christian faith.  Rev. Dr. Lee Spitzer shared the message from John 14:1-6 which was the last scripture that Rev. George spoke from his pulpit.  We rejoice that Jesus has prepared a place for us all and will come again to take us home to eternity.

Rev. Clyde Vanworth is given ABCNJ Recognition of Ordination at FBC Mount Holly Print E-mail
Written by Rev. Vernl E. Mattson
Thursday, 18 June 2009 17:41

Clyde and Jane VanworthThis past Sunday at both services of the First Baptist Church, Rev. Vernl E. Mattson, Associate Regional Pastor and Area Minister presented Rev. Clyde Vanworth a certificate of recognition of ordination and offered a prayer of dedication and commission as Clyde "Van" and Jane his wife now finalize their plans to become involved in work overseas.  We are delighted to see their work and to participate with First Baptist Church of Mount Holly in supporting them at this point in their journey.  Rev. Clyde Vanworth previously served as a chaplain in the armed services.  They have been in New Jersey now for several years and now will be following God's call to work overseas.  We join in prayer for them as they go to an area of the world where great religious persecutions continue to happen and are in countries of particular concern where serious abuses of freedom of thought, conscience, religion and belief around the world is under attack.
