Each church I visit has its own story and unique ministries. This is especially true of First Baptist Church in Madison, pastored by Rev. Dr. Charles H. Smith.

Behind the church building is a large back yard that has recently been transformed into a sacred and welcoming space called Carol's Garden. Carol Sallie Baxter, a long-time lay leader of the church, died a year ago. In her memory, Dr. Smith dreamed of a garden where members and community residents could come for meditation, fellowship and celebration. The church will observe the formal opening of the Garden this Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 2:00 p.m.
