Considered a theological masterpiece, "Jesus and the Disinherited" by Howard Thurman is a book that has gone down in history as an inspiration to Martin Luther King Jr. during the Montgomery bus boycott.

Howard Thurman delves into critical social issues that still affect our world today. Poverty, racism, spiritual disconnection, individualism, and social isolation are some of the issues he addresses. Thurman presents a persuasive case for interpreting the gospel as a source of empowerment for the marginalized and disadvantaged. Through his writing, he portrays Jesus as a compassionate figure who empathizes with the oppressed and provides solutions to prevent moral decay. He reminds us that the "three hounds of hell" (fear, deception, and hate) can still be overcome by love.

To commemorate this powerful work, we are hosting a retreat that will include personal reflection and group discussions. The main focus will be how Christians can apply the book's teachings in their daily lives and the implications of Thurman's writing for the church and society.

We highly encourage participants to read the book before attending the retreat. It will be an excellent opportunity to explore the challenges Thurman highlighted, and together, we can discover ways to impact our communities positively.
